I grew up in a homogenous community as a child in New Jersey, and often struggled with embracing my Asian heritage. My political activism started with my volunteer work with Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) in the summer of 2022. I decided to work with KAGC after Covid-19 quarantines and the rise of Asian hate crimes. Watching news headlines talk about the rise in Asian hate crimes and listening to my parents worry about the safety of my own siblings in their respective cities caused me to reevaluate how my identity played a role in the world around me. I felt compelled to understand how my position as an Asian American affected the AAPI community. At KAGC, I learned about political issues that directly affected the Asian American population such as the Adoptee Citizenship Act. I was taught the importance of political engagement, especially for Asian Americans.

Over the summer, I worked to create a video project interviewing multiple Asian Americans to speak on their political experiences. I want their experiences to be shared with the Asian American population to promote representation and political engagement. As a board member of the Pan Asian Alliance club at my school, I work to integrate Asian culture on my campus through activities such as hosting movie nights highlighting Asian cultures, or hosting speakers during AAPI month. Similarly as the Diversity Representative of my Student Council, I work to create open spaces for diversity to thrive on campus. I work with the students and administration to implement diversity initiatives for the student body.
Past high school, I want to continue learning about civic engagement and Asian American culture to further my passion in politics.
Over this past summer, I conducted interviews with five politicians:
